Augusto Farfus continued his recent improvement in form in the 2017 DTM in Saturday’s race at Zandvoort, and was finally able to convert a good performance into points. The BMW Team RMG driver achieved his best qualifying result of the season, securing second place. This put him and the Shell BMW M4 DTM on the front row of the grid for race eleven of the season, alongside fellow BMW driver Timo Glock.
Although he could not prevent the Marco Wittmann and Maxime Martin BMW M4 DTMs from passing him in the opening corners, he then produced an excellent, battling display to hold on to fourth place until his pit stop. Unfortunately, these scraps for position cost Farfus time and two positions after his tyre change. However, he maintained an impressive pace through to the end of the race and finished sixth to claim his best result of the season so far. Ahead of him, winner Glock was followed over the line by Wittmann and Martin to make it an all-BMW podium and complete the twelfth one-two-three for BMW in the history of the DTM.
“It was a good race, in which we scored a lot of points for BMW,” said Farfus. “Sixth place is a good start to the weekend for us, but we still have another race tomorrow. The goal is to build on today’s result and do even better tomorrow.”
