Augusto Farfus experienced a first in Saturday’s race at the “Moscow Raceway”. For the first time this season he contested a wet race in the Shell BMW M4 DTM. The track was initially so wet that the race had to start behind the safety car.

Farfus and BMW Team MTEK had not reckoned on there being quite so much water on the track, as the Brazilian explained afterwards: “The conditions out on the track were difficult for all the drivers. We did not expect it to rain so heavily, and so took a risk with the set-up of the car. That did not pay off.” Because of this, Farfus and team-mate Bruno Spengler both struggled to get the wet tyres up to the optimal temperature, particularly in the early stages. This made it impossible to make any progress from 14th on the grid. At the end of a relatively uneventful race, Farfus eventually crossed the finish line in the same position as he started.

His hopes now rest on tomorrow’s race being a dry one, as the pace of the Shell BMW M4 DTM improved the drier the track became. “We should have a good pace in the dry. Therefore I really hope that it does not start to rain again tomorrow,” said Farfus. Sunday’s race begins at 13:10 local time (12:10 CET).
