With bright sunshine and pleasant temperatures, the final race weekend of the 2017 DTM season has started at Germany’s Hockenheimring. For Augusto Farfus, however, the mood was not too bright after Saturday’s race. A problem at the pit stop cost valuable time and, in the end, the driver from Curitiba had to settle for 17th position.
Augusto and BMW Team RMG had arrived at Hockenheim with one clear goal: to gain more strong results in the Shell BMW M4 DTM. Starting from 14th on the grid, Augusto opted for a quite early pit stop after the eighth lap. A technical problem at the stop cost him more than ten seconds however. That ended his hopes for a points finish as it was impossible to make up the lost ground.
“Unfortunately, our expectations of this race were not fulfilled. We did not reach our targets,” a disappointed Augusto summed up after the race. “My start was good, but then we lost time at the pit stop. That cost us the positions. Ninth or tenth place might have been possible otherwise.”
Augusto’s final race day of the season will start tomorrow morning with FP3 from 09.00 to 09.30. Qualifying will follow from 12.00 to 12.20 and the 18th and last race of the year starts at 15.13.
