“Finally” – one could feel Augusto Farfus’ relieve after Sunday’s eventful race at Norisring. The Curitiba driver finished the race, interrupted by a safety car period and a red flag, in seventh place. In doing so, he collected his long awaited first six-points of the current DTM season.
In an extremely close qualifying session on the Nuremberg street circuit, Augusto had to settle with 15th on the grid. But the BMW Team RMG driver is known for always being determined and so was keen to get the best possible result in his Shell BMW M4 DTM. Augusto chose a very aggressive strategy and returned to the pits for his mandatory stop after only the first lap.
This paid off; when most drivers had pitted, Augusto had improved to 12th place. On lap 25, the safety car was deployed after an accident, and at the restart, he catapulted himself further forward to eighth position. However, the race had to be red-flagged after only three more laps due another accident. After half an hour, the cars went back on track again for the remaining 25 minutes of race time. Augusto was then seventh and he held the position to the finish line.
“Finally we have scored points. It took us long,” Augusto commented afterwards. “Unfortunately we did not find the right balance and the right set-up at the beginning of the weekend. Today we finally had a car to fight with. P7 is okay considering where I started. I managed to move through the field and in the end we could achieve a points results. Now let’s hope to score as many as possible by the end of the season.”
The next races in the 2017 DTM season will be held at Moscow Raceway in Russia. The fifth round of the season is scheduled for 21st to 23rd July.
