Fifth place in Sunday’s race: Augusto Farfus scored his best result of the season to date at Circuit Park Zandvoort today. After yesterday’s eighth-place finish, the BMW Team RMG driver gained a further three positions and proved once more that the old-school circuit in the Dutch dunes is a track that suits him really well. Zandvoort marked the fifth of a total of ten rounds of the 2018 DTM season that has now reached its halfway mark.

In the morning’s free practice, Augusto was the fastest BMW driver in his Shell BMW M4 DTM, finishing in eighth. In qualifying, he was on his way to an even higher position but made a small mistake and was eighth on the grid. In the race, Augusto progressed though the field with some brave overtakes, and at the Indy re-start after a safety car period, he took his chance to take fifth place and keep it to the finish line. He was the second best BMW driver behind Philipp Eng who crossed the line in fourth.

“We had a strong race”, a satisfied Augusto commented after the race. “We managed to find a good compromise for the car. It’s a shame that I made a mistake in qualifying, otherwise we would have had the chance to finish even higher, but let’s take the P5 and move on.”

Augusto can enjoy a short summer break now until he heads to Great Britain for a double-header in August. The sixth round of the 2018 DTM season will take place from 10th to 12th August at Brands Hatch. The weekend after (17th to 19th August), Augusto will race with BMW Team MTEK and the BMW M8 GTE again in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Silverstone.
