Augusto Farfus leaves the Nürburgring with more points to his tally but not as happy as he had hoped. After the rain lottery on Saturday, when the typical unpredictable Eifel weather prevented him from racing to victory, the driver from Curitiba finished ninth again in Sunday’s race. The iconic Nürburging hosted the seventh round of the 2017 DTM season.
Like Saturday, there were a lot of clouds in the Eifel skies on Sunday, but this time it stayed dry with stable conditions. Augusto started from seventh on the grid in his Shell BMW M4 DTM. In his opening stint, he made up several positions and moved up to fourth place. After lap six, he completed his mandatory pit stop, a strategy that was promising in the fight for the podium. In the second part of the race, however, he was unable to keep up with the pace of, amongst others, the very fast Mercedes drivers. After 40 laps, Augusto crossed the line in ninth place, scoring two more points.
“It was a weird race,” Augusto summed up. “We did our job but we did not have the pace of the Mercedes today. We go home with a few points. It is a shame because I think it was a weekend where we had prepared well enough to get more points. We will continue to work hard and see what will happen. We have had some strong weekends now – not in terms of points but performance wise – so let’s hope that we can have a good points’ haul at the next round in Spielberg.”
The Red Bull Ring in Austrian Spielberg will host the eighth and penultimate round of the 2017 DTM season. It will be held from 22nd to 24th September.
