The third race of the 2017 DTM season did not go the way Augusto Farfus had hoped. The BMW Team RMG driver ended the 55-minute race at Germany’s Lausitzring in 12th position, missing his goal of collecting points but it was the most the Curitiba driver could achieve today. In general, it was a challenging day, not only for Augusto in his Shell BMW M4 DTM, but for most of his fellow BMW drivers. With the exception of Maxime Martin in fourth, all the others crossed the line outside the points positions.

In this morning’s qualifying, Augusto had to settle for 15th. As one of his competitors was disqualified, Augusto started the race from 14th on the grid. The Brazilian set his sights on catching up and improving to within the top-10, but after 43 laps, he reached the finish line in 12th, being the third best BMW driver behind Martin and Marco Wittmann (11th). However, Augusto is optimistic of having a better day tomorrow.

“It was an intense race,” Augusto reported. “Unfortunately we did not have the right pace in the race so in the end it was just about staying with the pack and hoping for some points. This did not work out but I think we gathered good and important information to help us have a better car tomorrow.”

Augusto will be in action again in his Shell BMW M4 DTM tomorrow morning in FP3 from 09.00 to 09.30. Qualifying will follow from 11.30 to 11.50 and the Sunday race at the Lausitzring starts at 15.18.
