The 2018 DTM season is done and dusted. Hockenheim hosted the 20th and final race of the year. Augusto Farfus concluded the season with another points finish, crossing the line in seventh in his Shell BMW M4 DTM.
In a strong qualifying in the morning, the BMW Team RMG driver set the fifth fastest time, qualifying for the third row on the grid. On the opening laps, Augusto settled in sixth place. While his opponents completed their mandatory pit stops, he moved up the order to second place before he came to the pits for a comparatively late stop on lap 22. He re-joined the race in 14th place but soon took the positions back on the following laps to eventually finish in seventh.
The 2018 season had highs and lows on offer for Augusto, the highlight being without any doubt his second place on the podium at Brands Hatch.
“We had quite a good pace but unfortunately it was not enough to get a better result today. We did what we could,” Augusto said after the final race of the year. “I want to thank everyone at BMW Motorsport and at BMW Team RMG for this year. It has been a difficult one, but my boys gave it all at every race weekend. Unfortunately, the standings do not represent our performance. We just suffered bad luck on several occasions.”
The 2018 DTM title went to Mercedes driver Gary Paffett. Augusto’s team-mate Marco Wittmann was the highest placed BMW driver in the championship standings, ending the season in fourth overall.
