It was a conciliatory ending to a difficult DTM season: in the 18th and last race, held at Germany’s Hockenheimring, Augusto Farfus secured another points result in his Shell BMW M4 DTM. The BMW Team RMG driver finished Sunday’s race in seventh place. Saturday saw the driver from Curitiba on course to score points until he experienced bad luck as a technical problem during the pit stop lost him too much ground.

Augusto remained optimistic of finishing the season on Sunday with a positive result and he was right. In the morning’s qualifying, interrupted for 35 minutes due to a loose drain cover, he laid the foundation by finishing ninth. As another driver was given a grid penalty, Augusto started the race from eighth. After 36 laps, he crossed the line in seventh. Victory went to his BMW Team RMG team-mate Marco Wittmann.

“I think we performed well. There was not much more in it for us,” Augusto reported. “It feels good to have picked up a few more points in the final race of the season. I am now looking forward to the winter break, then we can go on the attack again next year.”

Augusto’s best race weekend of the season, that was a difficult one for the entire BMW team, was the one at Zandvoort, one of his favourite tracks. He started both races at the Dutch circuit from the front row, including pole position on Sunday, and secured strong points results in both races.
