Unlucky Sunday for Farfus in Silverstone
Augusto Farfus today finished sixth in the GTE class at the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup’s fifth round at Silverstone, Great Britain. Joining forces with his BMW Motorsport team-mate, Jörg Müller, at the wheel of the no. 55 BMW M3 GT, the Brazilian fought hard to transform Saturday’s pole position into a podium or even victory. But for various reasons, this wasn’t to be at the classic Silverstone circuit.
“During our first stint we suffered from very low grip,” Farfus reported. “And on top of that we had the bad luck during the safety car period. Normally our strategy would have worked out, but then the safety car joined the track directly in front of me.”
Farfus and Müller dropped back from the lead down to as low as 11th position – but never gave up. “When you lose so many positions there is not a lot you can do, but we were fighting hard and everybody in the team gave his best,” added Farfus.
Two more ILMC rounds are scheduled for the rest of the season: On 1st October BMW Team RLL will not only fight for more ILMC points at the annual “Petit Le Mans” held at Road Atlanta, but also have their sights on winning the American Le Mans Series GT titles. The ILMC season will then be concluded at the “Zhuhai International Circuit” in China on 13th November, with BMW Team Schnitzer again being in charge of fielding the two BMW M3 GT cars.
Next up for Farfus is another DTM test with the new BMW M3 DTM car on Monday and Tuesday at Germany’s “EuroSpeedway Lausitz”. For the first time, the BMW teams will meet the competition of Audi and Mercedes-Benz there.
