Farfus claims third place at ALMS season finale in Road Atlanta
It was his second appearance in the American Le Mans Series for BMW Team RLL this year – and again Augusto Farfus celebrated a podium. Sharing driving duties at the wheel of the no. 55 BMW M3 GT with Dirk Werner and Bill Auberlen, the Brazilian finished third in the GT class after 367 laps of the classic Road Atlanta circuit.
For BMW this was the successful conclusion of a perfect season: BMW Team RLL won the Team Championship, BMW claimed the top spot in the Manufacturer standings, and Dirk Müller and Joey Hand secured the Driver crown for BMW. In addition, Farfus and his team-mates scored valuable points for the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, too.
“It is always great to race in America,” he commented. “The event here at Road Atlanta is amazing. I would compare it to a small Nürburgring with regards to both the race track and the atmosphere. There are a lot of BMW fans. The spectators are very close to the circuit and we can see them waving and cheering. This season has been very successful for BMW, and I am proud that I was given another chance racing in the ALMS with such great team-mates.”
With the ALMS season now being over, there’s still one race to go in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. Farfus will then join BMW Team Schnitzer for the final ILMC round in Zhuhai on 13 November. Apart from that, preparations for the forthcoming 2012 DTM season continue for Farfus and BMW Motorsport in the next months.
