The fifth race of the 2016 DTM season did not go according to plan for Augusto Farfus. The BMW Team MTEK driver ended the 40-minute sprint race at Germany’s Lausitzring in 21st position. It was the maximum the driver from Curitiba could achieve today. In general, it was a challenging day not only for Augusto in his Shell BMW M4 DTM, but for most of his fellow BMW drivers. The exception was Marco Wittmann in fourth, who took the lead in the drivers’ championship classification. Maxime Martin also finished in the top ten in ninth, but all the others crossed the line outside the points positions.
In this morning’s qualifying, Augusto had to settle for 23rd. From this position, he had to tackle a challenging race, which saw him taking the chequered flag in 21st. Augusto has already put it behind him and is fully motivated to return stronger tomorrow.
“I am extremely frustrated,” Augusto admitted. “We had a problem at the start, but besides that we just did not have the pace in the car. We struggled in qualifying and we struggled in the race. It is a shame, but tomorrow is another day. Now we will focus fully on improving for tomorrow.”
Augusto will be in action again in his Shell BMW M4 DTM tomorrow morning in FP3 from 09.00 to 09.30. Qualifying will follow from 11.30 to 11.50 and the 60-minute race at the Lausitzring starts at 15.13.
